What is a typical project?
First
Stage
The first stage in any engagement is meeting us. We
usually meet for coffee, and explore what the firm's
challenges are (not just in a specific training area),
and how the firm typically engages with outside consultants.
This is essentially a "face-fitting" exercise.
We realise that our potential clients are asking themselves
the question "Do Pennington Hennessey Hennessy
have the credibility, borne of experience and expertise,
to work with our senior people?" We in turn are
asking ourselves the question "Could we develop
a long-term relationship with these people?" There
is often no immediate action as a result of this meeting,
as the client is considering his or her options without
a specific project in mind.
Programme Design
When we proceed, as a next step we are usually asked
to propose a solution for a well-defined project –
perhaps partner skills, sales skills for a discrete
business unit or work with a particular poorly-performing
department or sub-department. This project can include
the full range of services from training needs analysis,
individual interviews, bespoke design and delivery,
or it can be a individually tailored module from a bank
of previously developed material. A typical first project
is £5-10,000, although “Bitesize”
training is often a smaller pilot at £2-4,000.
Measuring
Success
Whatever the programme, we work with a client to establish
what success would look like and how we will measure
it. We have an extensive toolbox of possible measurements,
so can help clients decide which ones might be appropriate
for them.
Longer Relationships
After the success of a first programme we develop long-term
relationships with a small number of clients. We currently
have fourteen. The mutual trust we build means that
our clients can use us as a sounding board, and our
programmes are increasingly sensitive to the clients'
diverse cultures. This allows us to work on not just
the symptoms, but also the root cause of problems which
is not only beneficial for client but also gives us
greater satisfaction. We ensure that there is no conflict
of interest between our clients, so they can be honest
with us, and we in turn can share everything we know,
have seen work elsewhere or believe could really make
a difference.
